The mention of the term “anti-Christ” brings many thoughts to the mind. For the believer it usually brings the mind to the last day rising of “The Anti-Christ” or what would better be referred to as “The man of sin.” The purpose of this article is not to debate eschatological positions but rather to look at the rise of the spirit of anti-Christ in America.

When I say the spirit of anti-Christ I mean exactly that. Not a particular individual but rather the force of doctrines of demons and the effects of the reception of, and the result of those doctrines in the culture.

2 Timothy 3:1-4 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God”

As we look at this passage we notice specific things:

1)      Men shall love themselves above all others.

Our American culture has become narcissistic and enamored with self at a level not seen since the Roman Empire. There is no doubt that the selfishness of the culture has led to laziness and an entitlement mentality. Selfishness = anti-Christ.

2)      Men shall be covetous.

The love of self above all others has led to the idea that those who are lazy and short sighted should have a right to the property and labor of those who plan, take risk, and work for their money and possessions. The covetous mindset has led a generation to believe that they are entitled to have the property of others. Covetousness = anti-Christ.

3)      Men shall be full of boasting.

People generally now make their boasting loudly with no thanks to God for their accomplishments. They boast in their human power as if they gave themselves the gifting they possess. Human boasting = anti-Christ.

4)      Men shall be full of pride.

Pride is the sin that all sin stems from. It is the sin of Satan that led to his rebellion and caused him to declare that he will be above the Lord (Isa 14:12-15). Human ungodly pride = anti-Christ.

5)      Men shall blaspheme God.

Our culture’s media, entertainment, and art are constantly blaspheming God. Speaking lies against God, misrepresenting His word, and calling God a liar. There is no respect for the name of Jesus in modern American culture. Blasphemy= anti-Christ.

6)      Lack of respect for parental authority.

The government has taken a stand against parental authority. They are forcing parents to do all kinds of things and now with the communist “common Core” curriculum are further taking parental rights away and using schools to indoctrinate children into socialist, politically correct robots. The powers that be are eroding all parental rights to raise their children.  Stripping away God’s delegated authority = anti-Christ.

7)      Lack of thanksgiving to God.

People now believe that man is the answer to all problems and that there is no reason to thank God for anything. Thanklessness = anti-Christ.

8)      Wicked in actions.

The action of our people speaks of debauchery and is in keeping with a heathen culture, not a Christian one. Wickedness = anti-Christ.

9)      Without natural affection.

This is referring to the natural affection that parents have for their children. The fact of over 53 million babies murdered by their own mothers screams the loss of natural affection. Abortion = anti-Christ.

10)  Trucebreakers.

People no longer keep their word. They will say anything, do anything, lie, cheat, and slander to have their way no matter what they agreed to. Truce Breaking = anti-Christ.

11)  False accusations.

The culture is awash in innuendo, gossip, and accusations against all kinds of people. There is an entire industry that makes its living from accusations. False accusers = anti-Christ.

12)  Without self-control.

Not only is there a basic lack of self-control in our culture, the culture now praises and encourages self-indulgent behavior and calls it just another life style. No matter how bad the fruit is of our heathenish culture, encouragement to continue and condemnation of those who speak out against it continues. Sinful self-indulgence = anti-Christ.

13)  Fierce.

Fierce in this context means “savage.” The inference here is the idea of no concern for the basic rights or feelings of others. Our nation’s inner cities are filled with murder, rape, robbery, attacks of every sort with savage brutality. Fierce = anti-Christ.

14)  Despising those who are good.

The entertainment, media, and art establishments are constantly speaking against God’s people. Anyone who dares to speak out in favor of God’s Word is despised by the people who are anti-Christ. Despising God’s people = anti-Christ.

15)  Traitors.

Betrayal abounds if America. Our politicians for the most part take an oath to uphold the Constitution and betray that oath over and over. Traitors = anti-Christ.

16)  Heady.

Heady in this context means rash. This is a reactionary culture that has turned from logic and rational thought to emotional reaction. This has led to very rash decisions of individuals and of Government. The fruit is rotten. Heady = anti-Christ.

17)  High minded.

As the Scripture says “professing to be wise they became fools.” The conceited view of human worship of human reasoning has led to destruction of life, liberty, and the individual pursuit of happiness. High Mindedness = anti-Christ.

18)  Worshippers of pleasure.

Pleasure is the bread and circus of the day. The powers that be count on the masses being more concerned with the drug of short term pleasure that of long term liberty.  Worship of pleasure = anti-Christ.

The above list of sinful thinking and actions describes the result of anti-Christ teachings in culture. The truth is that anything that is against God is “anti-Christ.” Although Christians may at times struggle with the list or behaviors above, Christians are forgiven because they have placed their trust in the finished work of Jesus on the Cross. The clear inference of the above list is that these are the prevailing attitudes and behaviors of a culture. Too often Christians think of anti-Christ as some future thing. It is not a future thing, it is here now:

1 John 2:18 “Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.”

Yes “The man of sin” will come but make no mistake about it; the forces of Satan are working so deeply in our culture because we have turned for the general sense of a Christian world view, to an anti-Christ world view.  Jesus said:

Matthew 12:30 “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.”

If you are reading this and you are a Christian. I hope you will get a better understanding of the need to make disciples and live out your faith with the mission of the great commission. If you are an unbeliever reading this, I beg you to look around and consider how bad the culture has become and call out to Jesus for your Salvation. As always feel free to contact me:
